The Evolution of Welfare Economics

Arrow's view was very controversial.
We must conclude that Arrow's work has no relevance to the traditional theory of welfare economics, which culminates in the Bergson-Samuelson formulation.
Little (1952, p. 141)
I agree with Little in barring Arrow's theorem from welfare economics.
Bergson (1954, p. 247)
I export Arrow from economics to politics because I do not believe that he has proved the impossibility of the traditional Bergson welfare function of economics, even though many of his less expert readers seem inevitably drawn into thinking so.
Samuelson (1967)
