I receive many inquiries about research opportunities from
people who have not looked at my web page and do not know what I do. Someone who hasn't done their homework wastes time for both of us. I am willing to supervise independent research by qualified students but I am not looking for people to assist me in my research. If you contact me, it should be because you have a research project you would like to pursue under my supervision.

If you are a high-school student, please do not cold-write
to me. I don't need assistants for my research, and since I already have a full-time job, I don't have the time to provide the kind of supervision for an independent project that either of us would find satisfying.

If you are an undergraduate student, please read some of my papers in Econometrica, the Journal of Economic Theory, and similar journals. If you can follow these articles and are interested in this kind of analytical work we can talk. Please first send me a proposal for what you would like to do.

If you are looking to work with me as a graduate student,
you should know that in both economics and information
science (unlike in some other fields) one applies to the Ph.D. program rather than to the professor. You can find more information about these programs on their web pages.

At this time I am not taking on post-docs.
